In this chapter, I look at the morality and feminist ethic of care in Breaking Bad, and argue that Walt's desperate rise and downfall represent a patriarchal justice and control. In contrast, Jesse, Skyler, and other ancillary characters symbolize the feminist ethic of care, and their relative morality is superior and more sustainable than the traditional masculine patriarchal orders of oppressive power. While capitalism and empire-building have long been associated with power, success, and patriarchy, Breaking Bad offers the conclusion that the more complicated—and often considered feminine—orders of morality and care through communication and connection are what will ultimately triumph.
