African philosophy in context

a reply to Hountondji's "que peut la philosophie"

L. Keita

pp. 79-98

Abstract

In a recent paper titled "Que Peut la Philosophie'1, Paulin Hountondji sets out to offer a detailed critique of contemporary African philosophy. Hountondji distinguishes between two schools of thought: the members of one school support what Hountondji calls ethnophilosophy, while those of the other school of thought are united in their rejection of this approach to philosophy. Consider his characterization of the second school of thought.
