The word for world is forest — ghosts in the machine
pp. 94-97
Abstract
In LeGuin's novel The Word for World is Forest1. she presents a fictional forest that serves as a collective mind for its inhabitants living somewhere between dream time and world time. In the Einstein's Brain Project, the idea of the forest has come not only to suggest a model for the brain, but also to provide a rich environment for the exploration of ideas about consciousness and representation.
