Weird ideas, strange places, and freak events
pp. 353-378
Abstract
Like everyone else, I have had my share of unsettling experiences along with moments of emotional and intellectual ecstasy. In the following I will recall only a small sample of unusual experiences, such as the Montreal Ice Storm of 1998, my first exposure to postmodernism, the fall of Australian philosophers into the many worlds pit, the detection of outstanding students, and my recent exchanges with Chinese colleagues. I will also mention a few of my thrilling moments while reading about some scientific findings, or having certain philosophical and political epiphanies.
