Complementarity - polarity - dialectic - autology

a conceptual analysis of opposition and unity

A. Locker

pp. 3-23

Abstract

Deeply rooted problems of opposition vs. unity are discussed regarding their manifestations as thought and reality figures, like (a) complementarity, (b) polarity and (c) dialectic, respectively. They reveal themselves as autological, i.e. self-referential, and show also some connections with paradoxes. Mostly, autology constitutes an "infra-structure", underlying the other figures. Their role in science and meta-science is considered whereby the position of concrete man cannot be neglected.
