Do I hate theory?
pp. 163-185
Abstract
The title of this chapter is potentially misleading because the "I" is not necessarily its author. It would be better to treat this particular first person pronoun as a device, a conceit devised by myself — that is, the real myself — as an exercise in teaching Theory to undergraduates. More precisely, it is a polemic designed to provoke undergraduates into taking positions for or against aspects of Theory.
