This paper investigates the reception of Darwinism, or more generally the reception of evolutionary theory, among Spanish anthropologists in the nineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth.¹Before entering into this subject, however, one must first locate the problem in its Spanish context and demonstrate whether the conclusions and stereotypes evident in the principle works on Darwinism in Spain hold true for the case of anthropology.
