Phenomenology of rhythm and meter

Georg Boenn

pp. 7-13

Abstract

This chapter is meant to give some philosophical thoughts on the subject of rhythm and musical form. For related discussions I would like to point the reader to Husserl, (Vorlesungen zur Phänomenologie des inneren Zeitbewusstseins, Tübingen: Niemeyer, (1980)), Thakar (Looking for the Harp Quartet: An Investigation into Musical Beauty, Rochester, University of Rochester Press, NY, (2011)) and Boenn (Proceedings of the ICMC 2008, ICMA, Belfast, p. 4, (2008)). I will introduce in this chapter terminology that will recur throughout the book, and I am trying to give a greater perspective to these terms and why they are helpful for our discussion of rhythm and meter.
