Olivier Darrigol

pp. 1-11

Abstract

This volume celebrates the hundredth anniversary of the Bohr atom, which first appeared in the trilogy published by Niels Bohr in the Philosophical Magazine in 1913. The first part of this seminal text is reproduced below, following a survey of earlier atomic modeling, a summary of the contents of Bohr's text, and a brief analysis of Bohr's role in the subsequent development of quantum physics.
