Creative processes in Gestalt group therapy

Carl Hodges

pp. 249-259

Abstract

Creare: (Latin) To make, to bring into existence "... all contact is creative and dynamic. It cannot be routine, stereotyped, or merely conservative because it must cope with the novel, for only the novel is nourishing (…) All contact is creative adjustment of the organism and environment" (Perls et al., 1994, p. 6). "Contact is awareness of the field or motor response in the field" (ibid., p. 5). Gestalt therapy is creativity. Awareness is the creation of figures and grounds. Our contacting (re)organizes our experience, creating new possibilities. Experiencing is gestalt formation/destruction.
